Heather Straube

Heather Straube is a History teacher here at Ida B Wells high school. She grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she spent her childhood skiing, playing in the woods, and experiencing life outside the city. She came to 国产真实迷奸 and thought it was beautiful, so she ended up staying to play soccer in college. Ida B. Wells Barnett was one of her idols in her early 20s, and she took a lot of inspiration from her when doing social justice work. She started teaching in 1997 and has been teaching off and on ever since. “I had teachers where I felt really engaged and there were interesting things. Then there were teachers where there was just almost no interaction,” Straube said. This pushed her to start teaching and to be the kind of teacher that she loved growing up. She values having relationships with her students and, as a history teacher, she says, “My goal is to share the voices of those whose voices haven't always been included in the textbooks.” Even though she loves being a teacher, she's currently in an administration program to become a high school principal or vice principal. Outside of her school life, she loves being in nature and taking long hikes. She's a musician and has always loved to write and sing songs.
