Andrew Butterfield is a Ceramics teacher at Ida B Wells. He grew up in Denver, Colorado. When he moved to Oregon to go to Lewis and Clark he fell in love with the place and has lived here since. He studied art here then traveled to Indonesia for ten months to study art and music. There, he learned mask carving, painting, and some dance. He first got interested in ceramics as a freshman at Lewis and Clark. “The ability to work with clay really connected with me,” he says. He worked at DaVinci teaching art, and then moved on to teaching ceramics at Wells for the past eight years. He says his favorite thing about working at Wells is the community here.
