Joy Root has been teaching Italian and Language Arts for 14 years, 7 of which being at Ida B. Wells. Before coming to Wells, she taught at schools in Roseburg, Newberg, Sheridan, Woodburn, and her hometown of Eugene. She really enjoys seeing people learn and uses English and Italian to help them find their voices. “I think I have won over a lot of students to literature and poetry, which is not always easy because people come in with preconceived notions about reading,” Root says. “I think I’ve gotten kids to have fun with it which makes me happy.” Root likes nature photography, reading, writing, singing, and playing piano in her spare time. She is also interested in traveling the world, meeting new people, and experiencing new things.
