  • Walk + Roll to School THIS WEDNESDAY

Walk, bike, scoot, or skate to school this Wednesday for our Walk + Roll event in honor of Earth Day. Come get your hand stamped, add a bean to the jar (the grade with the most beans wins!), and pick up an Earth-Day inspired prize.

Even if you can't walk or roll all the way to school, consider parking a block or two away and walking the rest of the way. Get your heart rate up, reduce traffic congestion and idling around our school, and run into friends on the way to school!

  • Congratulations to Annie Walter, Selected for HeART of 国产真实迷奸!

Congratulations to 8th grade Annie Walter on the selection of her piece American Cover for the 2024 HeART of 国产真实迷奸 showcase. Annie's art was chosen to represent Laurelhurst for the show. HeART of 国产真实迷奸 is open to the public and run through April 28th at the 国产真实迷奸 Art Museum in the Miller Gallery, Mark Building, during the museum's regular hours.

  • Spring Family Assistance Survey

We have entered the final quarter of the school year, and we wanted to check in and see if your family could use some assistance. If your family has a need for a Fred Meyer gift card or other resources, please fill out . The deadline to submit the survey is Monday, April 22nd.

Also do not hesitate to ask the counselors to reach out to you if there are things you need or have questions about that are not on the survey.

    Thank you!

Your Counselors - Chelsea LaValley, K-4 & Andrea Bloch, 5-8

Last week was a busy week at Laurelhurst! Wednesday morning we had a Learning Walk with administrators visiting our school and classrooms to learn together. A big thank you to teachers Erin Tillery, Jeff Rood, Steve Walsh, and Philip delaHoussaye who opened their classrooms to our visitors. We were impressed with our students’ engagement through literary circles, academic discourse skills, skim reading and analyzing scientific articles, and discussing textual evidence.

On Wednesday, we also hosted our first Kindergarten Connect with families touring our school. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to register for Kindergarten and 1st grade now! Contact  in our main office for more information.

Our cafeteria was full of joy on Thursday morning as we honored our Laurelhurst volunteers who have spent countless hours working to make our school so special. Our gratitude goes out to all of you who have given hours of their time throughout this year. Thank you!

Friday evening we held our World Festival from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Once again, this PTA-sponsored family event provided a wonderful way to learn and celebrate all the different cultures we have at Laurelhurst. Thank you to all the families who hosted a booth and/or attended this fun event. We could not have held this event without our wonderful PTA volunteers who, from behind the scenes, made the World Festival happen. A big shout out to Bev Moon and Kat Whitehead for making this a magical, colorful, entertaining, educational, delicious evening!

As a reminder, we are now seeking a community member to serve as our new PTA President for next year. This person will work with me and our existing PTA Board to continue our important work for the upcoming school year. Laurelhurst is so special in part due to the partnership between school staff and our families. If you are interested, please contact me and/or Kelly Fischer at  for more information.

Laps for Lions is THIS Tuesday! Come join the fun and cheer on our lions as they run and walk around the school to raise money for our new playground structure. The more family members who show up to cheer us all on, the more festive the event. Please see details, including the run schedule and map, below.

    With Gratitude,

    Alyson

  • West Sylvan Eighth Grader Wields a Mighty Pen

Even as a small child, Miranda Yesser possessed a keen understanding of the mercenary nature of the publishing industry.

According to her one-page, tongue-in-cheek author bio, which hangs on a clothesline in English teacher Dr. Holly Graham’s colorful classroom, “Yesser began writing books at a young age, then trying to sell them to her family for 5 dollars a copy.”

It might be time to scoop those copies up. Miranda recently received honorable mention in the annual for her short story, “.”

Evan Sampson is one of those sophomores, and he will have a chance to share his story at this year’s HeART of 国产真实迷奸, a showcase spotlighting the artistic accomplishments of some PPS’s most talented students.

The two-week celebration of creativity will take place from April 16-28 at the 国产真实迷奸 Art Museum. All exhibits and performances are free and open to the public.

  • Lincoln & Grant Constitution Teams to Compete Nationally

This weekend, the Lincoln and Grant high school constitution teams will compete in the annual We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution National Finals in Washington, D.C.

Now in its fifth decade, the event brings together students from all 50 states for a series of mock congressional hearings on everything from the Constitutional Convention of 1787 to the separation of powers and the future of democracy.

The Lincoln and Grant constitution teams, under the instruction of Patrick Magee-Jenks and Angela DiPasquale respectively, have long histories of taking home trophies on both the state and national level.

    Good luck to all!
