Nick Caldwell is the band director here at Ida B. Well. He teaches Beginning Piano, Beginning Guitar, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. He grew up in Central California in San Luis Obispo. He has been teaching for 18 years at PPS, 12 of which have been at Ida B. Wells. Caldwell became a music teacher because of his love for music. “I got into teaching music because there is no better job than just getting paid to play music with other people, to create music and to get those musical chills every day,” said Caldwell. “I like helping teenagers out because I was a kinda floundering student, so I like helping out the students that need a little more attention... I really enjoy reaching out to those kids that are not necessarily our best students or our most troubled students, those kinda everyday 3.2 [GPA] students like I was.” He likes teaching at Ida B. Wells because of the community, quality of students and that he lives near the school. In his free time Caldwell enjoys golfing, watching sports with friends, playing card games and traveling. His favorite genre of music is heavy metal, but he also listens to Finnish black metal, Ukrainian folk metal, Romanian Pagan metal, Latvian speed metal and Swedish power metal. His favorite band is Iron Maiden.
