Ida B. Wells High School is a comprehensive public high school with a proud tradition of excellence. In addition to our core curriculum, Ida B. Wells High School offers 28 Advanced Placement courses in english, science, mathematics, music and art, world languages and social science. Rigorous programs are also available in visual and performing arts and computer science. More than 12 Dual Credit courses provide the opportunity for students to earn college credit simultaneously with high school credit. Our programs allow students to pursue a challenging course of study and encourage high academic performance and intellectual growth while also allowing students who excel in fine and performing arts to develop their gifts. At the freshman level, teachers team for modern world history, physics, and English in our 9th-Grade Communities, offering the support of a smaller learning community as freshman students transition to high school.

Ida B. Wells High School College and Career Center staff and volunteers help students fulfill career related learning graduation requirements, research careers and colleges, and apply to college and for financial aid. The services offered in the CCC complement the work of the Counseling Department in preparing Ida B. Wells High School students to achieve their post-high school goals.

Opportunities to learn outside the classroom include Multnomah ESD Outdoor School Program, apprenticeships in science and engineering, and many programs at area universities.

Ida B. Wells High School encourages family and community involvement as an essential component of student success. Families and community members help coordinate school activities, volunteer in classrooms and study centers, and accompany students on field trips.  Families get involved and support Ida B Wells High School through PTA, , Foundation and the Community Equity Council

Ida B. Wells High School features a mid-century modern brick building with three floors and an elevator on over 20 acres of a park-like setting; including wide halls, spacious cafeteria and gymnasium, auditorium, music facilities, choir and drama rooms, lighted football stadium, swimming pool, courtyard, pickleball courts, and handicap accessibility. In the summer of 2014 we installed an all-weather turf field in our athletic stadium, and also completed construction of a new concessions building.

The library features a full computer lab. State-of-the-art computer technology is readily available in publications, science, library, business, math and writing labs. Special education programs help assure that students have opportunities and assistance to maximize learning.

Academic Highlights
In addition to a rigorous and challenging math curriculum including two years of AP Calculus, Ida B. Wells High School offers four years of Computer Science and two years of Systems Dynamics and Modelling. We offer  more than 13 art courses including AP Studio Arts, Illustration, and Ceramics. We offer 18 courses in Music and Performing Arts, including Theater, Band, Choir and Dance.

Student Life 
Ida B. Wells High School students are active in more than 40 clubs and activities including Mock Trial and Model UN. Ida B. Wells High School has fielded as many as 23 teams in PIL and Recreational leagues, including men's and women's soccer, lacrosse, basketball, skiing and dragonboats.
