• School Events

Throughout the year, Alameda Elementary holds a number of events including those listed below. For current event schedules, please visit our school calendar.

    Back-To-School Night

This annual September event is a parents-only evening. The evening begins with an overview presentation from the Alameda PTA and Foundation. Parents then proceed to their child’s classroom where teachers provide present information about the school year’s curriculum, calendar events, and expectations of students. Teachers provide fall conference sign-up sheets and the PTA and Foundation provide volunteer sign up sheets for upcoming events.

Run for the Arts & Artists in Residence

Run For The Arts is a regional jogathon/walkathon conducted by individual public and private schools to raise money for educational arts programming. Students collect pledges and then run/walk around the Alameda School block while parent volunteers help count laps and encourage the participants. Run for the Arts funds Alameda’s Artists in Residence Program.

    Connect to Kindergarten

This informational event takes place in the early spring. Parents/guardians of incoming kindergarteners (enrolling the following fall) are invited to visit the school. Visitors spend time in the kindergarten classrooms, meet the teachers, and view the common areas of the school. Connect to Kindergarten includes day and an evening session. Parent volunteers help answer questions and direct visiting families.

    Field Day

Field Day is an all-inclusive, non-competitive, active and fun day at the end of the school year. Under the direction of Suzanne LeBaron, Alameda’s physical education teacher, stations are set up all over the field and playground. Students move from station to station at their own discretion. Many parent volunteers make this fun and exciting day possible for all the students. Look for volunteer sheets to come home in early May.

    Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is an annual, weeklong book sale of new children’s books sponsored by Scholastic Books. Typically held in the fall, proceeds from this event support the Alameda library. Book buyers also have the option to purchase and donate books from teacher wish lists to individual classrooms. Parent volunteers help with the set up and the staffing of the sale.

    Spring Open House/Art Curriculum Night

This event takes place annually in the spring. Alameda families are invited to tour the school and visit their child’s classroom to view special art projects and class performances. The evening begins with a concert performance by the kindergarten class.

    Staff Appreciation Week
This week is part of a national teacher appreciation initiative that takes place in the late spring. It is an opportunity for students and families to thank the teachers, administrators, and support staff who make a difference in our children’s education. The Alameda PTA helps plan activities to recognize staff, provide food, and help at a staff luncheon.

    Vision Screening

Alameda 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders receive vision testing once during the school year. The classroom teachers determine testing schedules. Parents are informed of the testing prior to their child’s testing time. Nurses are on-site to perform the vision screening. Parent volunteers organize students and assist with the screening process.
