Curriculum Overview

  • Engaging students is a primary focus at Sellwood Middle School. We strive to kindle every student's desire to learn by offering a wide range of classes and opportunities.

We start with an emphasis on the core classes: Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science. Within each of these areas, our teachers find ways to challenge all levels of students - using group projects, activities and field study to help bring these subjects to life. For students seeking accelerated classes, we offer Compacted Mathematics, Spanish and French Language for high school credit, which prepares students to enter International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement programs in high school.

These core classes are balanced by a rich set of elective classes. Our students can choose Spanish, Art, Band, French, Technology, Leadership, Marimba and Drama.

Our academic program includes Outdoor School for sixth graders, Career & Technical Education field trips for 7th graders, and Talented and Gifted and Special Education services.
