Hazardous Materials
PPS staff who wish to dispose of materials that may be hazardous or have questions regarding hazardous materials should call (503) 916-2000, extension 74277. You may also email your questions or concerns to hwagner@pps.net
• Hazard Communications (HAZCOM) Procedures
All district staff are required to follow the HAZCOM rules outlined in the district's safety program. This plan meets the requirements of Oregon-OSHA and helps to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. Only district-supplied chemicals are to be used in district facilities or programs. No chemicals or pesticides brought from home are to be used. All pesticide activities must comply with district policy, administrative directive, and procedures described in the district's Integrated Pest Management Program Manual.

• Disposal and Storage of Hazardous Materials
Chemicals or products from district facilities require proper disposal to avoid injury, liabilities, and fines. Chemicals, old products, used or expended chemicals must not go into the trash. If you have a new program or are inheriting one, please call for additional assistance. Environmental Health and Safety staff will come to your school and provide assistance or answer any questions you may have. Please store chemicals in a secure place to avoid creating a hazard.
• Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Safety data sheets (SDS) are detailed information bulletins prepared by the manufacturer or importer of a chemical that describes the physical and chemical properties, physical and health hazards, routes of exposure, precautions for safe handling and use, emergency and first-aid procedures, and control measures. PPS has a database of the safety data sheets (SDS) for chemicals located throughout the 国产真实迷奸.
• Spill Response & Chemical Hygiene Plan
Through the safe and proper clean-up of hazardous materials, we help ensure a safe school environment.
OAR Chapter 437, Division 2, Subsection Z, requires sites using hazardous chemicals to develop and carry out a chemical hygiene plan. In the district’s case, the requirements apply only to high schools and some administrative sites. A Chemical Hygiene Plan is a written program developed and implemented by the employer which sets forth procedures, equipment, personal protective equipment and work practices that
(i) are capable of protecting employees from the health hazards presented by hazardous chemicals used in that particular workplace and
(ii) meets the requirements of paragraph (e) of this section.
