    If your child will be absent, please call the main number at 503-916-6322 or email the school secretary (pcabreraperez@pps.net) and your child's teacher.  Please state the reason for the absence, illness, injury, appointment, etc.  This needs to be done by 9:15 am or you will receive an autodialer call from the district.

    Sick Policy

    Here is a quick and easy guideline provided by PPS and the Oregon Health Authority regarding our sick policy. If you have questions, please call us at 503-916-6322.

    Student’s symptoms/diagnosed illness

    Students may return to school when...

    Fever greater than 100.4 degrees (orally)

    *Fever-free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medicine AND after a Covid-19 test is negative, OR 10 days if not tested

    New cough illness OR New difficulty breathing

    *Symptom-free for 24 hours AND after a Covid-19 test is negative, OR 10 days if not tested. If diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough), the student must take 5 days of prescribed antibiotics before returning

    Brown, gray, tan or yellow drainage from nose, eyes or any other part of the body

    Discharge must be gone or student must have been on antibiotics for 24 hours and have written or phone consent from a medical doctor to a school nurse.

    Vomiting/diarrhea

    Symptom-free for 48 hours

    Diarrhea-3 loose or watery stools in a day OR not able to control bowel movements

    Vomitting-one or more episode that is unexplained

    Rash or rash with fever — new or sudden onset

    Rash disappears; written or phone consent from a medical doctor to school nurse

    White, clay-colored, or bloody stool

    White, clay-colored, or bloody stool

    Yellow skin and/or eye color

    Yellow skin and/or eye color

    Brown or bloody urine

    Brown or bloody urine

    Stiff neck or headache with fever

    Symptom-free or written/phone consent from a medical doctor to school nurse

    Unusually sleepy, lethargic or grumpy

    Symptom-free

    Strep throat diagnosed by a medical doctor

    Must have been on antibiotics for 24 hours and have written/phone consent from a medical doctor to school nurse; if no antibiotic given, call school nurse before sending child to school

    After an illness of two or more weeks, surgery, or other change in health status

    Written instructions from the doctor and parent regarding medication or special health needs must be provided to the school nurse
